Goa Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Ramesh Tawadkar’s comment about his government’s intention to set up centres to offer medicinal treatment to the LGBT youth so as to normailse them attracted flak on the social media as well in the opposition ranks in Goa.
“We will make LGBT [lesbians, gay, bis*xual and transgender] youth normal. We will have a centre for them like Alcoholics Anonymous centres. We will train them and give them medicines too,” Mr Tawadkar said on Monday while discussing the Bharatiya Janata Party-run state government’s policy report on youth.
However Many youth have taken to social networking sites to criticise Mr Tawadkar’s shocking statement including the Opposition Congress have also criticised Tawadkar for what it calls making an “unscientific, illogical and brainless” statement.
According to Section 377 of the law, a same-s*x relationship is an “unnatural offence” and punishable by a 10-year jail term.
