If you are an American, there is a good possibility that you will not get this joke since it is so traditionally British. If you are British, however, there is a good probability that you will. Fortunately, Britain’s younger sibling, Canada, is here to assist in finding a solution to the situation and determining where Britain has disappeared to.
A character named Barry Scott was developed for the purpose of appearing in a commercial for a wide variety of cleaning supplies that were marketed under the brand name “Cillit Bang.” This advertisement was quite well received in the UK. When these commercials were broadcast, the company also promoted its line of cleaning products by using the tagline “bang, and the filth is gone.”
