Adrian Mutu’s Record-Breaking Fine
The phrase “if you can’t do time, don’t do the crime” is one that Adrian Mutu has never heard of. In 2003, the Romanian soccer player was transferred to Chelsea for €22.5 million. Still, his actions off the field cost him dearly: he lost his position at Chelsea, received a seven-month ban from playing by Football Association., and had to pay £15.2 million in damages to his former employers.

Mutu was one of many soccer players who have been caught using illegal substances. Unfortunately, he was punished for his first offense but did not learn his lesson. In 2010, he tested positive for another banned substance while playing for Fiorentina.
