Robert Hoyzer Served Time in Jail for His Crimes
Robert Hoyzer was a German soccer referee who, in 2005, was caught accepting bribes to skew the outcome of games. He ensured that Hamburg lost a World Cup game by making bad calls in one such instance. At first, denying the charges brought against him by the German football federation, Hoyzer later came forward and confessed his guilt; due to his frankness and cooperation with authorities during their investigation, he received a lighter sentence than what might have been originally proposed.

Despite Hoyzer confessing and begging for a suspended sentence, the Berlin Regional Court sentenced him to just under three years in jail. He was released early due to good behavior but is banned from the DFB for life.
