Diego Maradona’s Darker Side Got the Best of Him
Diego Maradona is often one of the first names that come to mind when thinking about the greatest athletes to ever play the game. His style and skills were unmatched, which earned him a spot as one of two recipients of the FIFA Player of the 20th Century award alongside Pelé. However, throughout his career, Maradona maintained an unhealthy habit of substance abuse which took a toll on his athleticism and also resulted in him being kicked out of the 1994 World Cup.
Maradona failed his substance test right before the tournament, so he was sent home. In two different years, he was banned because of his inner struggles.
