Grateful to Khan
Catherine was beyond guilty and anxious about Khan when she returned home because he saved Charlotte’s life. She couldn’t stop thinking about how grateful she was for him and felt terrible that, in doing so, he put himself at risk of losing his own life.
On top of it all, Catherine also felt ashamed for ever thinking Khan would hurt her daughter on purpose—when really, he had just moved her away from something dangerous.
