Queen Elizabeth Had Secret Cousins – True
The show’s plotlines are highlights in themselves, but the most attention-grabbing one might be the Queen’s extended family crisis. Princess Margaret is trying to deal with her own issues when she learns of a shocking secret–that two of her first cousins were committed to an asylum and then declared dead. Sadly, this story is based on reality. Nerissa and Katherine Bowes-Lyon were indeed the Queen’s (and Margaret’s) cousins who suffered developmental difficulties during a time when such children were considered shameful, especially for Royal families. As a result, they were locked away instead of given help or support.
The only thing that isn’t true is, unfortunately, Margaret’s interest in the royals – she likely didn’t have any. Nevertheless, caretakers at the asylum alleged that whenever the royals appeared on TV, Nerissa and Katherine would stand up and curtsy.
