The Australian Prime Minister Called the Queen a ‘Pig’ – False

The Crown’s Australia episode centers around one local response to Charles and Diana’s planned visit, that of then-incoming Australian prime minister Bob Hawke. A hardline supporter of disengaging from the British Crown, Hawke infamously said, “You wouldn’t put a pig in charge of a herd of prime beef even if it did look good in a twin set and pearls.” If this seems like an unrealistic thing for any world leader to say about his own country’s head of state, that may be because he never said it.

Although Hawke and the Queen disagreed about Australia’s standing in the Commonwealth, they got along pretty well due to their shared interest in racing.
