The Queen’s Press Secretary Acted as Fall Guy for an Anti-Thatcher Article – False
The supposed conflict between the Queen and Prime Minister Thatcher is part of a larger storyline. We’re told that, in 1986, London’s Sunday Times newspaper ran the headline, “Queen Dismayed by ‘Uncaring’ Thatcher.” The quote supposedly came from Elizabeth’s own press secretary, Michael Shea. This was an unprecedented break from the monarch’s long-standing apolitical stance.
It’s important to note that the headline is indeed accurate. However, it’s worth mentioning that while the show implies Shea was an unknowing victim who took the fall for Queenie’s actions, in reality, Shea himself divulged Queenie’s supposed opinions to the press.
