The second of Diana’s rumored affairs is only casually mentioned. In the conversation, Princess Anne accidentally spills hot tea on the Queen while discussing Diana’s affair with one of her security officers. Though unnamed in the show, they’re talking about Barry Mannakee. Once again, The Crown fails to provide many details about this relationship. The affair ended prematurely when Mannakee was transferred away from Diana’s security detail after the Palace became suspicious.
Mannakee’s untimely death in a motorcycle accident left Diana devastated. She believed foul play was involved in his passing, and it remains the “biggest blow of (her) life.”
