In what seems like an uncharacteristic move, Princess Anne is regaling the Queen with stories of Diana’s bad behavior instead. Diana’s affairs are only lightly mentioned, whereas Charles’s relationship with Camilla gets much more attention. In episode nine, we meet Captain James Hewitt for the first time. He was initially Diana’s riding instructor, but the two had an affair that The Crown does not display in full! We only see a glimpse of Hewitt, and Diana quickly ushered him into Kensington Palace before anyone sees them together.
However, the five-year affair was quite serious, and Diana allowed him entrance into Highgrove – Charles’s private abode.
