Most of Belafonte’s fans know him as the “King of Calypso.” He started off his career in music before transitioning into acting. His most renowned song is probably The Banana Boat Song, while some of his popular movies include 1959 noir Odds Against Tomorrow and 1953 musical Carmen Jones.

He was a close friend of Martin Luther King Jr. and remained politically active throughout his life, getting involved with many social issues.
