This individual has no idea what they’re talking about. This isn’t how an accent works. Everyone, to some degree or other, has an accent. The word “accent” comes from the Latin term “accentus,” which means “pitch.” Accents are usually categorized as regional accents due to their distinct way of speaking. In reality, there are at least a few different American accents.
The manner in which someone from Georgia speaks will differ considerably from that of someone from New York or Wisconsin. You may not be as aware of your own accent while conversing with individuals who have a similar accent.
