Cleopatra Was an Egyptian
Following Alexander the Great’s death, his empire was divided into four sections. Ptolemy I Soter founded one of these divisions, which governed Egypt and took its name from him- the Ptolemaic Dynasty. After a line of several rulers, Cleopatra VII Philopator became Queen of the Ptolemaic Kingdom in Egypt from 51-30 BC.

Many people believe that the famous monarch Cleopatra was Egyptian. However, she was actually of Macedonian Greek descent, being the daughter of Ptolemy XII Auletes and the last ruler of the Ptolemaic dynasty.
