Interpretive Signage
Where did we get the symbols we see on signage? While the images frequently deliver the intended meaning, other times, they appear to be considerably more obscure. Consider the image below, for example. What was intended to be a picture of a guy slipping on water has a broader connotation.
Someone didn’t think that this sign displayed a wet floor. Instead, they saw a man with three snakes behind him, one of which had just slithered up and bitten him in the ankle as he fell to the ground. You do not have to go into much detail when using this meaning. They just said, “1 out of every three snakes is a jerk.” That’s about right.
