Filming for Shalako
In 1968, for her first non-romantic comedy role, Bardot signed on to star in the British-German production Shalako. The film’s more prominent male actors tended to overpower her character in terms of importance, but she still wielded a weapon and rode a horse (and looked great doing it).
Despite this, the film was a critical and box office failure. Because of the high production cost, it fell well below expectations at the box office. However, with time passing by, the film became a cult classic – regarded as the epitome of a European Western.
