After appearing in a few notable films, Bardot became world famous after marrying director Roger Vadim. In 1956, her spouse’s directorial debut, Et Dieu… Créa La Femme (English title: And God Created Women), skyrocketed her to international stardom.

The film was a global success, and it was one of the top ten box-office draws in Britain for that year. It advanced American norms when it came to portrayed female confidence, as well as providing a stepping stone for raunchier films in the industry.
