Incredible vintage photos of life in America during the ’50s

Rosa Parks

During the 1950s and 1960s, segregation on the basis of race was extremely widespread. Rosa Parks was a key figure in the Civil Rights Movement and was detained for refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger.

This image was taken on June 26, 1956, the day integration on public transportation became legally required. The man behind her is a journalist who was covering the event.
