Every airplane has several lavatories built-in, and these spaces can get pretty busy depending on how long and how full a flight is. One thing you may not have known about airplane lavatories is that they can be opened from the outside. This feature is built-in for emergency purposes only. Flight attendants aren’t going around barging in on passengers!
Airplane lavatories can be opened from the outside in case a passenger is ill and needs assistance from flight staff. It’s also there in case flight attendants need to intervene with a passenger doing something they shouldn’t be doing in there! This rarely happens, but sometimes passengers decide to sneak certain activities and think they won’t get caught.
