The Real Reason for Co-Pilots
When on a plane, we usually hear the pilot’s voice over the intercom at the beginning and end of any flight. But how many times have you actually seen them emerge from the cockpit while the plane is in the air? The answer is probably zero. The cockpit door is always mysteriously closed, and sometimes we only see the pilot and co-pilot as we’re getting off a flight.
The reason for this is that the pilot and co-pilot have to be in the cockpit at all times making sure the plane is operating correctly and flying the correct route. Fun airplane fact: The pilot and co-pilot are never allowed to eat the same food! This is a rule to ensure that, in case of food poisoning or an allergy, there will always be one person who can fly the plane.
