More IKEA problems
One look at an IKEA catalog, and you’ll understand this meme in its entirety. Swedish is a beautiful language that makes use of accent marks, as well as long strings of consonants that make words even more difficult to pronounce. Even though Swedish is easy to learn, according to the internet, knowing how to pronounce certain words is a pain in the butt.
But there’s actually a good reason behind the seeming randomness of IKEA’s products names. Ingvar Kamprad, the founder of IKEA, was dyslexic and had difficulty remembering item numbers. So, he swapped out their numbers with names Swedish town names and other applicable terms. It made it easier for him to understand, but the rest of us non-Swedish-speaking folks are left completely in the dark.
