Strict no-smoking policies in public
A 2016 survey found that roughly 40% of males and 7% of females smoked. While it’s completely fine to smoke in South Korea, you can only do so in designated areas. If you’re caught smoking in a non-smoking area, you can be fined up to $4,500 and even face jail time.
Smoking in public beaches is a no-no in South Korea, so beachgoers don’t have to worry about uncovering gross cigarette butts in the sand. If you’re jonesing for a smoke, just head on over to one of the many available smoking areas in public. Just keep your feet within the smoking area’s borders.
