Different standards of beauty
Our idea of beauty here in the west is a lot different from South Korea’s perception. While it’s true that beauty is “in the eye of the beholder,” South Korea has a pretty defined list of beauty standards. We’re not sure whether this is a good thing or a bad thing, but it’s something people in Seoul just have to accept.
Svetlana shared one example of how different beauty standards actually helped increase her self-confidence. Back in her home country, her friends made fun of her pointy ears. But in Seoul, people would compliment her for her large, elf-like ears.
