Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi rivalry has been at the top of almost every football discussion. The stars became rivals when Real Madrid made a whooping signing of Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United in 2009. With Lionel Messi leading the stars in Barcelona, all eyes were on these two players.
In a world of football where nobody is coming close to these duo, you wouldn’t wonder why it is always them. However, the two players have made it clear that they are not competing.
The media however, has instigated one rival gossip after the other about Leo and CR7. The latest being that Ronaldo has a nickname for Messi, (Hijo de una puta) Son of a whore. And Messi has been a subject of ridiculous humor in Real Madrid’s dressing room.
Ronaldo did not hesitate to discredit that. He said through his facebook page:
“News is circulating that I allegedly made offending remarks regarding Lionel Messi. This is absolutely false and I have assured my lawyer takes action to sue those responsible. I have the utmost respect for all my professional colleagues, and Messi is obviously no exception.”
When Messi was asked if he was competing with Ronaldo his answer was simple: “we are not competing, we are only doing our job which is to help our clubs win.”
A lot of people don’t believe this. Because, apart from winning collectively, individual honors have become a big part of football success.
