Messi sets new Champions League record


Lionel Messi was last night all smiles as Barcelona thrashed  APOEL Nicosia of Cyprus 4-0, with the Argentine star netting ha-trick. It was a welcomed breakthrough, Messi has been struggling with goals this season but it seems the door is actually getting wide for the left-footer.

The champions league match against Ajax saw Messi equaled the highest goal scorer record held by Real Madrid Legend, Raul Gonzalez. The 71 goals all time record has been highly coveted. Now Messi has Broken it and set yet a new record with extra 3 goals.

Another contender in this record is Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, who is 4 goals away from equaling the record.

It could be recalled that on the 22 of November, Messi set a new record as all time La Liga highest goal scorer, breaking Thelmo Zarra’s 59 years old record of 251 goals, and setting a new record of 253 goals and counting.
