The super eagles coach Stephen Keshi, is now the major contention between the officials of the Nigeria Football Federation on whether to let go or keep him despite the fact that the Coach has over-stayed his welcome according to some within and outside the country’s football governing body.
Enough indications has been seen, that a section of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) leadership seriously want Keshi to stay even though he failed to qualify the country to the 2015 African Cup of Nations, at least to keep their jobs if no other thing.
A top source informed that the group that favors a new contract for the failed coach believes Keshi’s “very powerful friends” will finally accept them if they give him a new deal.
However, this group is opposed by a majority on the NFF executive committee who has stuck to a “unanimous decision” in October to sack Keshi.
We all know that the coach was fired by the NFF, but later recalled back following the order of president Jonathan, and now it has been a lingering issues whether or not to keep the once celebrated and record breaking coach of the super eagles, Mr. Stephen Okechukwu Keshi.
There is certainly no love lost between Keshi and his employers even before this sensational U-turn and the frosty relationship has been worsened by the Sports Minister’s decision to directly pay the coach 14 million Naira as salaries for his work in October and November.
Most recently several top coaches including Shuaibu Amodu, Christian Chukwu, Erico and Adegboye Onigbinde have asked Keshi to walk away from the job because he has failed.
Why Keshi is still holding on, is a little bit of confusions to some football fans but certainly not for him as he himself knows the very reason more than anyone else.
