Mao Ohuabunwa has condemned the defection of the speaker of house representatives Aminu Tambuwal from PDP to APC, calling it abnormal. He stressed that morality should be the driving force of politics.
Ohuabunwa who served two terms in house of rep (1999- 2007) was addressing journalists in Abuja after submitting form to run the Abia North Senatorial District.
Talking about the situation, he said that the speaker of the house made a serious error and thus violated the rule by abandoning the Party that put him in the position of a speaker. He added, "it is not normal for the speaker of the house to defect, for me, what is important is that; I found out that the rule of the house has been tampered. Usually, the majority party has the right of a speaker."
According to him, what made Tambuwal speaker was his party PDP. He added, "I don't see anything wrong if he can re-seek the mandate of the house through his new political party to become speaker"
He therefore urged members of the house not heat up the system. "In a case like this, it's very clear. The house of rep should act quickly to address this issue before Christmas recess since there are a whole lot of other things needing attention, like the budget."
