The Lagos state governor has announced to the public that Friday, November 7 as a work free day for public workers in the state. The governor made the announcement yesterday November 5 2014 in other to enable workers in the state to collect their permanent voter cards (pvc) in preparation for the coming general election in the country. November 7th shall be work free day in order to enable workers to carry out there civic duty and exercise their civic rights. It is all for our collective good.” In order for our democracy to be truly representative, it must be participatory, which means that everybody who is 18 years above from today is eligible to vote in the next elections”. However participation imposes a duty on all of us, if we must have a say in the elections. The first duty is to register as a voter to be eligible to vote on balloting day next year.”
The governor urged residents of the state to endeavor to collect the cards and register to vote while also pleading with employers to allow their workers to close from work early.
The collection of permanent voter cards (pvc) will reportedly commence in Lagos Friday 7 November and will end on November 9 while fresh registration will take place from November 13-17
Banks and other centrally regulated institutions may still carry on their activities in the state
