Presisential election results would be released within 24 hours, the Chairman of Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Attahiru Jega has said.
He told journalists in Abuja that it was possible to beat the 2011 record where results were announced in 48 hours.
The electoral boss commended Nigerians for their resilience and good conduct during the elections.
Prof Jega accepted there were problems during the elections but promised that such problems would not recur in the April 11 governorship and house of assembly elections.
He added that investigations were going on to ascertain what caused some of the avoidable problems.
Again he warned journalists to avoid publishing unauthenticated results from the commission.
Open collation
Jega also said journalists and stakeholders will be allowed to witness collation of results as they arrive the National Collation Centre.
He said adequate notice would be given to journalists to set up and witness the exercise.
He confirmed collation in various states were nearing completion after which they will be sent to Abuja for final collation and subsequent announcement.
