Justice Ibrahim Buba of a federal high court sitting in Lagos this morning ruled against the deployment of soldiers by the Federal Government to polling stations during the forthcoming elections slated for March 28 and April 11 2015.
He said the deployment of soldiers is ‘unconstitutional and anti-democratic’.
The court relied on a recent Court of Appeal ruling that barred the use of soldiers in the conduct of elections, stating that it was a violation of Section 217(2)(c) of the Constitution and Section 1 of the Armed Forces Act.
