Election

Four people died during APC primary that took place in Lagos

It was like a war scene on Tuesday, at Ebute Meta area of Lagos state when sounds of gunshots dominated the air.

As the confusion ensued leading to people running helter-skelter for their lives, 4 youths were shot dead and others wounded while many vehicles were vandalized.

The crisis started aftermath APC primary election conducted for two candidates, Adekanye and Bashiru Oloto. The race were for Lagos Mainland Constituency 1, in the 2015 elections.

Reports has it that immediately the results were made public, many hoodlums from Apapa Road, who were said to be equipped with various types of weapons besieged the area and started to make trouble. As the chaos ensued, the adjourning streets were also affected as the vehicles on the streets were either burnt or destroyed.

Residents who witnessed the shootings testified to the killings and most of them pleaded anonymity. This is how one of them narrated it: "The boys are from Apapa Road. They cannot be less than 100 because they were many and had double-barreled guns, cutlasses and others. They shot sporadically into the air and attacked people.

"Apart from the 4 persons that were shot dead, many more were seriously injured and were rushed to hospitals."

Many people who escaped being killed or injured, have various ordeals to recount. A trader from one of the affected streets,  Tolulope Salaam, said the gang carted away all her wares which she estimated to worth N60,000.

A mechanic in the area, by the name Musbau Agbogun, wondered why the security forces there could not repel them.

He said, "I have been seeing them patrolling the area. I also saw men of the Department of State Service and policemen from Denton division moving round. Despite that, innocent lives were wasted. If this can happen in the party primaries, what should we expect in the real election?"

Tales of woes surrounded everywhere as many people have their own parts to tell, but the people were however, surprised to hear the Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu to say that no body died in the Ebute Meta incident.
