Jessica later found out that the Lius’ lawyer, as well as the agency, had convinced the Lius’ that Jessica was intending to sue them. They somehow believed that Jessica and Wardell were threatening to sue, though they had never used those words.
Threatened by the option of taking this to court is what made the Lius’ demand the high compensation. Jessica and Wardell never planned on suing anyone for money – all they ever wanted was to have their baby back.
