Getting tested
The DNA test revealed what Jessica suspected from the very beginning – that one baby wasn’t at all related to the Lius’. Though it was what they had suspected, hearing it from the doctors still came as a surprise to both parents – how could something like this happen? The caseworker encouraged Allen to take a DNA test, which proved that one baby was in fact her biological son.
The couples never got a sure explanation of what had happened. Doctors offered two possibilities: either Jessica was already pregnant with another baby when the treatments took place, or it was a rare occurrence called superfetation, where a woman gets pregnant during another pregnancy.
