Tanker Explosion In Lagos Ibadan Express Way

The accident is said to have happened early in the morning around 5.30 am. The accident involves more than 10 vehicle and some buses carrying petrol products and perishable goods such as frozen fish, tomatoes and pepper. As a result of the explosion, the goods were burnt. It also claims the lives of more than 4 people dead with 2 persons injured.

The zonal commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Lagos, Mr. Ademola Lawal said that while they were clearing the roads for the similar accident that happened on Saturday, a truck carrying petrol products, was traveling along the Lagos Ibadan express around the Ibafo axis, in the process of trying to overtake another vehicle it lost control, which led to the explosion. He also went on saying that immediately after the explosion, people around, began to run for their lives. Eyewitnesses also says commuters who were in the process of escaping the explosion got burnt.

Mr. Lawal siad that the injured passengers were rushed to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH). The accident led to the hectic traffic in the Lagos Ibadan Express way. Reports has it that the traffic held the wife of the governor of Oyo state Mrs Florence Ajimobi and the former Deputy speaker of House of Assembly in Ogun State Hon. Ayo Odugbesan for almost 10 hours.

The governor of Ogun state Ibikunle Amosun has reacted to the incident and blamed the reoccorrence of accidents on the road bad state. he also advised that competent road workers, should reconstruct the roads professionally.
