According to the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), the allowances are grouped into two, the regular allowances and the non-regular allowances. The regular allowances are paid regularly with the basic salary while the non-regular allowances like Accommodation Allowance, Vehicle allowance, Furniture Allowance, and the Severance Gratuity are paid once in every tenure (4years). The RMAFC went further to explain that Vehicle Allowance is optional, and it has to be paid back before the end of the beneficiary tenure.
Even at that you cannot in anyway compare N216,000 an average Nigerian struggle to go home with annually as the total amount of the N18,000 national minimum wage with N9,740,310 which a member of the House of Representatives goes home with annually.
