The South African paralympian has been found guilty of murder and criminal intent over the killing of his girlfriend. The ruling was made today, 3 December 2015 by the South Africa Supreme Court of Appeal in a judgement many has be hailed as very important in South African criminal justice system.
Justice Eric Leach on behalf of the five Judges said Pistorius’ claim – one of several put forward by the defence – of putative private defence, or self-defence in fear of his life, was not rational.
His evidence was so contradictory that it is impossible to know his true reason for firing, they concluded.
But it was clear the person behind the door did not pose any immediate threat to him. He has been referred back to be properly sentenced.
