An eyewitness told NAN that the driver of the truck suddenly lost control and rammed into a PHCN pole before spilling its content in the bush.
One of the passengers who sustained a minor injury, Malam Garuba Dodo, said he noticed that the driver had been showing signs of exhaustion and was advised to take a rest.
He, however, decided to proceed on the journey, it was learnt.
“ We just noticed that he was already showing signs of tiredness before he suddenly lost control of the vehicle,” Dodo said.
NAN reports that the body of the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary while those injured were taken to Ajisafe Hospital in Omu-Aran.
The driver of the truck, who also sustained a minor injury, was arrested by officers of the Omu-Aran Police Division.
Mr Abdulkareem Akeem, the FRSC Head of Operations, Omu-Aran Unit, confirmed the incident, saying the command was still investigating the cause of the accident.
Akeem, however, advised motorists to always exercise caution and remain in the right frame of mind before embarking on any long journey.
He said the command had set up an “Help Area” on the outskirts of Omu-Aran to assist motorists on the highway.
Akeem said the “Help Area” was equipped with First Aid treatment facilities, adding that this was part of the command’s ember months initiative to enhance rescue operations. (NAN)
