The continent known as South America has plenty of diverse ecosystems it hosts, and many more experiences than some regions can offer. Plenty of places in South America tend to be popular vacation destinations for travelers. You can go somewhere here for education, relaxation, exploring, nature experiences, and so much more. But what places get the most traffic? Here are some of the most popular vacation spots in South America.

Los Glaciares National Park

Head to Argentina for the start of this list with Los Glaciares National Park. This park is the largest national park in Argentina and hosts a massive ice cap feeding many glaciers as well as Argentina’s largest lake. There’s tons of unique biodiversity to witness and learn about here, and plenty more to see or do nearby in Argentina after you’ve seen enough.

Salvador

Brazil’s party town of Salvador is mainly so popular because of its well-known and massive annual Carnival which is the world’s largest party. The town has its own unique local culture you can experience year round and interesting architecture. You can also learn a bunch about history from visiting Salvador in Brazil.

Pantanal

Looking for the best wildlife experience in South America? The Pantanal is the most stunning and wildlife-rich area in the continent for many reasons, and sits mainly in Brazil with some existence in Bolivia and Paraguay. You can travel this wetland by plane or boat and there are dozens of unique plant and animal species you’ll be able to see here.

Tayrona National Park

Time for a trip to the beach! In Columbia, Tayrona National Park not only keeps its wildlife protected but provides visitors with gorgeous waters and beaches along the Caribbean. You probably won’t be able to swim here much due to the current, but there are endless experiences and animals to see in this major beach-filled national park.

Quito

If you want to see some history, Ecuador’s capital city Quito is not only the highest capital in the world but also one of the best preserved historical capital’s. There are many surrounding volcanoes you can see as well as amazingly preserved history and buildings that have often existed for many years in this little city. Quito really is a beautiful sight!

Atacama Desert

Chile’s Atacama Desert will give you the most interesting experience of a desert in much of South America. It has salt flats, geysers, and blue lagoons while being the driest desert in the whole world. You can explore so many sights here that you’ll never forget, and you can probably catch it during off season for some better luck at less popularity.

You can add a bunch of locations in South America to your travel bucket list especially if you’re planning ahead for some nice summer vacations.
