The Lagos State Government has called the attention of all peace loving Lagosians to the illegal activities of black uniformed men and women who have, again, taken over Lagos toll gate end of the Lagos Ibadan Expressway early morning on Thursday, aided by four armed policemen while intimidating and harassing LASTMA officials at their traffic management duty post.
According to a statement issued by the State Ministry of Transportation, this group, parading themselves as FERMA Task Force, has no known authority or statute in regards to traffic management or enforcement in Lagos State as such their activities, including usurping LASTMA duties on Lagos roads, is not only illegal but unconstitutional.
The statement also observed that a mass transit bus branded in the campaign colours of the Lagos State PDP Gubernatorial Candidate was parked on the premises of the illegal “FERMA Task Force”, probably to convey them to different locations in the State to cause chaos.
However, LASTMA being a law abiding agency reported the incidence to the Lagos Police Command who denied posting of any officer to the outfit, saying the illegal deployment of police personnel to aid this group in their illegal activities on Lagos roads will be investigated and dealt with appropriately.
Nevertheless, it concluded that the Lagos State Government has condemned the nefarious activities of this group and call on their handlers to withdraw them immediately from the roads and highway in the State.
