In place of sweeping and tidying up the Highway, one highway manager got swept to death while other sustained varying degrees of injuries when a Toyota Corolla car rammed into them at Agric Junction in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital on Thursday.
As they can’t be working all through without resting up a bit, the unfortunate sweepers were said to be resting after sweeping the streets for some time when the car ran into them.

Asked what caused the accident and you will marvel at it as one of an eyewitness disclosed to the newsmen that the driver of Toyota car with registration number, EP 550 AP, whose name is yet to be ascertained, was using his mobile phone while driving and lost concentration.
The source further stated that when the driver found out that he was hitting a truck used to cart refuse, he quickly swerved to the right side of the road to avoid the truck, but eventually hit five of the women who were resting by the roadside. The driver was said to have escaped.
The women were rushed to a nearby private hospital but were referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.
A source, who pleaded anonymity at the UITH, said, “One of the injured women died before reaching the hospital. He was confirmed dead on arrival.
She added that one of the victims sustained a serious injury and had been admitted in the hospital, while the other three injured victims were discharged after treatment.
The Kwara State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed the accident.
He stated that a woman died while four others were injured as a result of the accident. He added that no arrest had been made.
