The Federal Government said it has awarded contract for reconstruction of the 655-kilometre Sokoto-Yauri-Kontagora road.
President Goodluck Jonathan, who is also the PDP Presidential Candidate, said this during his campaign in Birnin Kebbi on Monday while addressing a mammoth crowd of the party’s supporters.
He said government had released fund for the project and the contract had been awarded to a befitting construction company.
He added that “our administration has transformed the transport sector of the economy through construction of roads, airports and rail lines.’’
The President said Kebbi was among the seven pilot states for rice production, noting that “we would continue to boost rice production with a view to substituting rice importation with export.”
Jonathan said the Federal Government had intensified efforts in curtailing desertification under the Great Green Wall Project (GGW) launched in the state.
He called on the people of the state to support PDP in the forthcoming general elections for prompt delivery of dividends of democracy to them.
In his remarks, Gov. Saidu Dakingari assured the President that PDP would win the state come 2015 general elections.
He said all PDP members that defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) did so because they were unable to secure nominations into elective positions in PDP.
The governor, who commended the President for citing a federal university and magnificent grains silo in the state, assured him of victory in the elections.
Also on the President’s entourage were PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, former Minister of Defence, Dr Bello Haliru and Amb. Ibrahim Kazaure.
