The Lagos state governor, Gov Babatunde Fashola(SAN),on Friday appealed once again to the federal Government to give Lagos state a special status to help the city achieve its economic growth.
Fashola made the appeal at opening ceremony of the 28th Lagos International Trade Fair which theme was ‘promoting the Nigeria Economy as a preferred investment destination venue was at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.
The Governor who was represented by the state’s Commissioner for commerce,Mrs Olusola Oworu said the state generates about 20 percent of Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product,(GDP),and as such remains the economic center of the nation.
Fashola also added that it would be impossible to attract local and foreign investors without security and infrastructure such as electricity.
We have identified areas such as agriculture, transportation, housing and power that will take Lagos to its investment destination but the state needs to be given special status to achieve this, Fashola concluded.
