FG to introduce free feeding in Almajiri schools

Free Feeding Programme for the Almajiri schools is to be introduced by the Federal Government. This is aimed at reducing hunger and malnutrition among pupils.

The Minister of National Planning, Dr. Abubakar Suleiman, made this known in Abuja at the presentation of the progress report on Almajiri Integrated Schools.

Dr Suleiman said the programme would be remodeled to include basic western education and Islamic studies to reduce illiteracy and make them less vulnerable.

The Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, represented by a Director in the Ministry, Dr Amalaha Okeze, described the feeding programme as a positive development.

A representative of the Borno State government, Mr Ibrahim Birma, urged government to ensure that the schools are strategically located to reduce the danger of the children falling victims of insurgency.
