The suspect was arrested following a report to the Commissioner of Police on Jan. 30 that one Saheed Kolawole, a Director of Scot Hotel, Odonla, Ikorodu had been kidnapped.
Aderanti said that the kidnappers contacted the victim’s family and demanded a ransom of two hundred thousand dollars ($200, 000).
“I directed a massive manhunt for the kidnappers and on Feb. 4, the O/C, State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), SP Abba Kyari and his team, led a decoy team to Owutu, in Ikorodu, where the families were directed to bring the ransom.
“The Police had laid ambush for the kidnappers, who later came on a motor bike and engaged the police in a gun duel, which led to the death of John Paul, the gang leader,” Aderanti said.
According to the Police Commissioner, the ransom and the victim’s phone was recovered and further operations led to the rescue of the victim and the gang’s operational vehicle.
Aderanti urged Lagosians to make available to the police, intelligence that would lead the police to criminals’ hideouts, so that Lagos can be made safer for all.
