According to Punch news report, the 42-yr old Akorede allegedly belonged to an eight-man robbery gang, who had gone to the V.I. area of Lagos on 12 September, 2014 and robbed one Mr.Albert Omisere of his Toyota Prado marked, AAA 690 BH.
It was also gathered that the said vehicle was reportedly delivered to Moses Ogbu, one of their member, who in turn, gave it to Akorede to re-fix some of the parts before the eventual sale of it.
Constative News also gathered that after the gang had been nabbed, that SARS operative didn’t rest on their oars because Akorede was trailed by the SARS operatives and was subsequently caught while the stolen vehicle was also recovered.
According to the police, it sounds rather funny that while Akorede was still standing trial before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court, he went back into crime and was caught at the point of re-fixing another stolen car to be sold.
While speaking with the newsmen, he confessed that although being new in the crime, barely a year now, that he could not recall the number of vehicles he had sold! This is a man who went on a pilgrimage to Mecca in 2010.
“It was a friend, one Dada, by name who introduced me to the gang and I started with them since. I used to sell the stolen vehicles along Ile Zik area in lagos. All along I have been a building engineer until when I joined the group. There were about three Toyota Highlanders which I sold for 1.2m each and other ones for N600,000 each!”
“I went back into the job because while I was on bail, Ogbu called to tell me that the gang wanted to dispose a Toyota Prado, I gave Moses N250,000 for the vehicle. This I did because I needed money badly”.
Lagos state police public relation officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu comfirmed the report and said that the investigations are on going and that the suspects would be charged to court soon.
