A first class graduate shot dead by a police constable in Kaduna over girlfriend

A thirty years old first class graduate of Economics from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Moses Murtala Aminu, was shot dead by police constable, Alex Okpe, on Sunday.

Eyewitness account states that Moses had left his house at No .67 Ahmadu Ahidjo street for a party in Barnawa,Kaduna State.

And the Police constable,Alex Okpe, was beating Aminu’s girlfriend up outside the party venue. When Aminu tried to intervene, the constable got angry, brought out his rifle and shot Aminu dead on the spot, the constable then shot in the air several times as he escaped on his motorcycle.

This incident was confirmed by Kaduna State Police Commissioner. He said Alex Okpe had been arrested and confessed to the crime during interrogation, claiming to have shot in ‘self defence’.

The Police Commissioner, however, added that at the time of the incident, Alex wasn’t sent to Barnawa. He said, “Alex is in the cell, and we have commenced investigation, If found guilty, we will give him an in-house trial and summary dismissal so that he can face the law for homicide.”
