The report shows numbers continue to fall across the state but that’s not the case for Duval County, where numbers are on the rise.
According to the 2014 Semi-Annual Uniform Crime Report there have been nearly 1,000 more crimes committed in Duval County compared to last year.
Beverly McClain is the founder of Families for Slain Children. McClain said she’s not surprised by the increased crime numbers in Duval County because she sees the faces of people desperate to provide for their families every day.
“It’s a cycle, a vicious cycle where people wake up in the morning and program to doing what they doing, instead of knowing its help out there for them,” said McClain.
The report, released by FDLE, said there were almost 20 more homicides, almost 80 more robberies, more than 300 more aggravated assaults and more than 12,700 larcenies in Duval County.
The Rev. Ruth Taylor, of Ministers for Slain Children, said that people are getting more desperate because they don’t have opportunity.
“The educational process is if you receive an education, then you’re entitled to a job, but I noticed there’s no jobs coming to the area,” said Taylor.
But the number of forcible rapes went down as well as the number of burglaries. In Duval County, there was an overall increase of almost 4 percent of crime from 2013. far from appearing stagnant, statistics continues to show that in many places around the world, crime has been some kinds of a common language.
