Recent clashes between an unknown rebel group and Burundi’s army has claimed many lives, the group are said to have came from the DRC’s eastern and crossed into Cibitoke Province north of the capital, Bujumbura, over the night to attack their soldiers.
According to Burundian officials “We’ve so far recovered 34 bodies of attackers. On our side, we have lost one soldier,” however authorities had not yet identified the rebels group that attacked their soldiers.
past attacks in Burundi’s border have been claimed by a splinter faction of the National Liberation Forces (FNL),
the main body of FNL struck a peace deal with the Burundian government in 2009 and since then it has become a political party.
The splinter group identified as Party for the Liberation of the Hutu People have however denied their involvement in the latest attacks.
