Maiduguri (CONSTATIVE) — An explosion in a market in Nigeria’s North Eastern city of Maiduguri killed at least 20 people and injured more than 20 people, a security source and witnesses said on Saturday.
According to the public relations officer of the Nigerian Police, Borno State Command, Gideon Jubrin, the incident which occurred at about 12:30pm left the female suicide bomber and 19 others dead.
The incident has led to the injury of 20 persons at the market, which has become the center of such attacks, as this is the third time in the last three months it was coming under the attack of female suicide bombers unleashed by suspected terrorist sect, Boko Haram.
The death toll may however rise as at the time of filing this report on Saturday afternoon, the site of the explosion was invaded by aid workers who were trying to gather dead bodies.
However National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA), officials were seen at the scene of the incident to give aid to those they would be able to give.
