Suspected armed robbers have broken into three Bureau de change shops on Lagos Street in Benin City, Edo State, killing a security guard identified as Abubarkar Shaibu.
The robbers were also said to have looted other stores in the area.
The body of Abubarkar was found in the morning when the shop owners resumed for business.
He was stabbed in the stomach while his colleague Haruna Zakari was stabbed on the leg and was found tied.
Owners of the shops however refused to comment on the matter while the body of Abubarkar was later taken away for burial according to Islamic rites.
Commenting on the incident, Chairman of Hausa Community in the state, Alhaji Badamasi Salihu, said killing of security guards at Lagos street was a common phenomenon, recalling the beheading of three teenagers in the same area last year, adding that those behind the heinous act were yet to be arrested.
He therefore, appealed for more protection from security agencies. Confirming the incident, Edo Police spokesman, DSP Joseph Edogiawerie, said investigation has commenced into the matter.
